Introduction
Hey there! Like everybody else, I used to think Pinterest was a platform for décor, recipes, getting the trending colors, finding DIY projects, planning the perfect events, etc. Things that are aesthetic and colorful. It was only last year that I discovered the potential of how to earn money on Pinterest when Instagram’s algorithm made it difficult to grow. My blog was hardly getting any traffic until I started Pinterest marketing. I have realized that in the past seven or eight years, Pinterest has emerged as a powerhouse for making money, even for a beginner like me.
With 400+ million monthly users, Pinterest provides a ready platform with an already engaged audience, eager to learn and buy. And all that I needed to do was post pins showcasing my products and blog posts to turn them into an opportunity to make money.
If you’re serious about your online business, or if you want to earn a second income, I think Pinterest provides a perfect platform for beginners to thrive. Today I’m no longer a beginner, and it took a lot of trial and error for my account to get from zero to 80K monthly visits. This blog post will explore the ways you can get started and the strategies that you need to monetize Pinterest. I’ll also tell you how to create content that attracts traffic and brings new sales.

Why Pinterest is Ideal for Beginners
In 2025, most social media platforms have become search engines. In fact, Instagram videos are already linked to Google. But you have to remember that Google is pushing out its AI products and consequently, other sites have been pushed down in search results. Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook have their own algorithms, where you need to have specific hooks which keep changing. But Pinterest is completely different with its own set of rules. It is a visual search engine at its core.
Here, most visitors come with a purpose: seeking ideas, learning something, or finding inspiration. That becomes a vibrant opportunity for entrepreneurs to answer questions with specific content that are answers to what the audience is actively asking in Pinterest Search Bar.
What Makes Pinterest Unique?
- High User Intent: Pinterest has become a place where people can buy products directly or find solutions to their questions with one blog post. Most of the time there’s no clickbait, as seen on Instagram. That leads to people being more likely to engage with content and buy products.
- Longer Content Lifespan: Most social media platforms don’t showcase content beyond 48 to 72 hours, but Pinterest is different. My own pins that were posted in July 2024 are still going strong and get me maximum traffic. That means my pins have a longer shelf life and can drive traffic to my website and shop for months and years.
- Ease of Use: Did you know all Pinterest needs is consistency and creativity? You don’t have to be a graphic designer on this platform or know how to edit videos for reels. Just the basics of Canva (even the free version) and knowing SEO strategy will help you achieve great success.
All this and more makes Pinterest a powerful platform that can help you make money. Here are the various ways you can do so.
But before you start making money, you need to set up a Pinterest business account.

1. Create a Pinterest Business Account
I used to have a personal account on Pinterest, and I’m sure you do too. My clients ask me if they can convert their personal account into a business one. You can do so because Pinterest allows it, but I would advise you that if you’re starting a new business or promoting an already existing business, start a new Pinterest business account.
The advantages are:
- Claiming your website, so you can directly upload pins from your website, which already has the metadata in it
- Analytics that help you track the performance of your pins and get the demographics and interests of your audience
- Access to Pinterest ads in case you want to start promoting your business
Many go for ads directly, but so far, I have avoided using ads. All the growth in my account is organic.
2. Optimize Your Profile
Initially when I started out in 2024, I was told to be clear about what I wanted to help people with and what my brand was about. But over the months, with changes in the Pinterest algorithm, I have realized that my business account should be SEO optimized. Now I use keywords in my name, bio, board descriptions, and pin titles. For the profile picture, you can either have your own photo or a logo of your brand. Both work very well.
Most Pinterest gurus advised using consistent colors, fonts, and design elements. But I have not found great success when I did that. In fact, I use seasonal and bright, attractive colors. They catch the eye more. I make sure my logo and website are on every pin so they are easily identified.
Once these two steps are done, all you have to do is start monetizing your account, and there are different ways to do that.
Step 1: Start a Blog to Drive Traffic
They say that blogging is dead, but I find that there are many of us who love reading blog posts. So blogging is indeed a powerful way to make money. Write blog posts that answer questions people are asking on Pinterest and use your pins to drive traffic to these posts. Once you’ve done that, and traffic to your blog posts and website starts increasing, that’s when you can monetize through ads, affiliate marketing, and selling products.
I already have a blog post on How to Start a Blog to Make Money, but here are a few tips:
- While picking a niche, be ultra-specific. Then the chances of the blog becoming successful are higher. A general niche like “entrepreneur” no longer brings in traffic. “Helping stay-at-home moms start an online business” has a higher chance to rank well.
- While setting up a blog, use a reliable service provider and make your blog look aesthetic and professional. I use Showit + WordPress, the best of both worlds. Showit for my website pages and WordPress for my blog. Use my code DCP to get 45 days of free trial on Showit.
- While writing blog posts, 1200 to 1300 words is better now since readers’ attention spans have become quite low. Use bullet points, short blocks of text, attractive pictures, and make it scannable to help you grow faster.

Step 2: Monetize Your Blog
1. Ads
Display ads on your blog using platforms like Mediavine and Google AdSense for great revenue.
2. Affiliate Marketing
Earn commissions by recommending products and services.
Pro Tips:
- I have already written blog posts about Affiliate Marketing and Affiliate Marketing on Pinterest
- It’s easier to do affiliate marketing on Pinterest, as it is low effort and high value
- All you need to do is sign up for affiliate programs in your niche, create pins that show the benefits of the product, and post them
- Always ensure you are transparent about your affiliate relationships. A disclaimer in the description of the pins and in the blog post is needed
3. Digital Products:
Create your own digital products like ebooks on business, AI, fitness, finance, or templates for social media, or printables like financial planners, calorie trackers, or diet planning templates and sell them via your website. You can also sell courses where you teach skills such as graphic design or DIY crafts as a set of short videos. Shopify’s starter plan helps with great integration. I did the same with my website.
Pro Tip: I have already written a blog post on How to Create and Sell Digital Products on Pinterest along with Some Free Templates on this Blog Post.
4. Services:
Depending on your expertise, you can start providing services pertinent to your niche, like diet consultation, yoga instruction, exercise coaching, VA services, or even Pinterest management services.
Pro Tip: Here’s a blog post that tells you How to Start a Virtual Assistance Business right from your home.
5. Pinterest Shopping:
If you’re selling physical or Digital Products, set up Pinterest Shopping to allow users to purchase directly from your pins. This creates a seamless buying experience and can significantly increase your conversion rates. You can sync your product catalog from Shopify, WooCommerce, or other e-commerce platforms. When users see your product pins, they can click to buy without leaving Pinterest, making them more likely to complete the purchase.
Step 3: Pinterest Ads
I don’t use Pinterest ads for my account, but they’re a great way to amplify your reach. Use ads to promote your pins and get more visitors to your website, more sales for your products, and more clients for your services.
Pro Tips:
- Ensure you’re targeting the right audience based on demographics, interests, location, and more
- Pinterest loves high-quality, fresh pins, and your ads need to stand out. You can either create them yourself or invest in professional visuals and copywriting
- Use analytics to track your ad performance and adjust your strategies for better returns
FAQs
What makes Pinterest pins effective for making money? It is a visual platform, so your monetization depends upon the quality of your pins. Use high-definition images that are vibrant, clear, and attractive. Don’t use blurred images, stolen images, or even AI images. Ensure that text overlays have large fonts and are easily readable. Use keywords in the title. Having a call to action like “learn more” or “download now” can be written, but recent successful pins usually don’t have them now. They focus more on the title. Like this

How important is Pinterest SEO for beginners? I cannot emphasize enough how important optimizing your pins for SEO is. It is extremely critical to use the right keywords in your pin descriptions, titles, and alt text to increase your reach.
What’s the best pinning strategy for making money? Always post fresh and new pins. Don’t repin the same pin to different boards. Group boards are no longer important in 2025. Pinterest rewards consistency. Even if you’re pinning just four pins, do it every day and optimize them.
How should beginners plan Pinterest content for maximum earnings? Plan Seasonally. Pinterest users plan ahead. They’re searching for Christmas content in October and summer recipes in March. Create and pin seasonal content 2-3 months in advance. Holiday-themed pins, seasonal recipes, gift guides, and event planning content perform exceptionally well and can drive significant traffic and sales during peak seasons.
Step 4: Pinterest Analytics
Analytics play a key role in tracking your progress to see what’s working and improve areas where you’re not succeeding. Impressions, outbound clicks, and saves will tell you which pins are working so you can create similar pins. Refine your strategy by experimenting with different designs, keywords, and posting times, though I wouldn’t emphasize posting times too much because Pinterest takes a couple of days to categorize your pins and then show them to your audience.
Use the data from your analytics to make informed decisions and focus on what resonates with your audience.
