How To Set Up Google Analytics On Showit
Step 1: Create a Google Analytics Account
Head to Google Analytics and sign up for an account with a gmail address if you don’t already have one.
Click Start measuring to set up your account.
Input your account and website details (make sure you enter the Showit website URL.
Choose the appropriate industry category and time zone.
Click Create and accept the Google Analytics terms of service.
Next would be the Tracking ID
Step 2: Get the Tracking ID
Once your account is set up, you’ll be given a Tracking ID (format: G-XXXXXXXXXX)
This is the code you need to track your Showit site’s traffic.
Get back to your Showit website now.
Step 3: Add the Tracking ID to Showit
Now, let’s add the tracking ID to your Showit site.
Log in to your Showit dashboard.
Go to Site Settings
Paste the Google Analytics tracking ID into the Third Party Integration of the Showit settings.
Save your changes.
Step 4: Verify the Installation
To ensure your Google Analytics is properly set up,
Return to your Google Analytics dashboard
Check the Real-Time tab to confirm traffic tracking
If you see traffic on your site, the installation was successful! Sometimes it takes 48 hours to get all the data.
How To Set Up Google Tag Manager On Showit
Step 1: Create a Google Tag Manager Account
Head over to Google Tag Manager and sign up for a free account.
Enter your account name and container name (use your Showit website URL as the container name).
Select Web as the target platform and click Create.
Now get the Container ID which would be GTM and a string of numbers.
Step 2: Get the Container Code
After creating your account, click on the Container ID number, and you’ll be given two pieces of code:
One for the Head section
One for the Body section
Copy the Head HTML code.
Step 3: Add the Google Tag Manager Code to Showit
Add the Head Code:
Log in to your Showit dashboard.
Go to Home page and then to Advanced Settings on the right side lower down
Paste the Head code from Google Tag Manager into the the Custom Head HTML section of your pages.
Note: If you already have code installed in the Custom Head HTML section of your site, scroll to the very end of the code and hit enter to drop down to a new line, where you can paste additional code.
Add the Body Code:
For the Body tag, copy the entire second code snippet on Google Tag manager and go to your website.
Showit has a handy feature called Embed Code Widget at the bottom.
Click on the widget and go to the Embed info tab seen on the Properties panel on the right side.
Paste this code into the Custom Code box.
Do this on every page of your Showit website for the tag to fire properly. I put the head code in the advanced settings Custom Head HTML of every single page and the body code into the header cavas, which was a site canvas, so it was automatically available on every page.
Also, the Showit blog is integrated with WordPress, adding these codes in the Showit advanced settings and Embed Code Widget of your blog template pages would work for your blog pages.
Once these code snippets have been added to all the pages of your website including the 404 page, click the publish button. Now your Google Tag Manager should now be connected to your Showit site!
Step 4: Verifying the Setup
To check if Google Tag Manager is working correctly, use Google’s Tag Assistant or the Tag Manager Preview Mode.
Simply go to Google Tag Manager,
Enable preview mode, and then visit your website.
You should see a green notification indicating that your tags are firing correctly.
How to Use Google Tag Manager on Showit
Once Google Tag Manager is installed, you can start tracking specific events on your Showit website. Here’s how:
Tracking Events with GTM:
Click Tracking: Want to know how many people click a button? Set up a Click Trigger in Google Tag Manager and associate it with the button and links.
Form Submissions: Track form submissions by setting up a Form Submission Trigger.
Scroll Depth: Gauge how much of your content visitors are engaging with by creating a Scroll Depth Trigger.
After setting up these triggers, you can view the results directly in Google Analytics under the Behavior section.
