Pinterest is one of the most amazing platforms to use till date to drive organic traffic to your business, including your digital products and services. I didn’t jump on to the platform until July 2024 when the Instagram algorithm changed and view plummeted, along with my motivation to make reels. It was then I switched to Pinterest, and today I find my success within a span of 3 months far outweighs any other I have ever had on any other social media.
I started with pinning 6 fresh pins every singe day for 2 months and saw skyrocketing growth from 0 to 15k within 6 weeks. Then it plateaued and stayed at that level for a month. But with a slight push to posting 12 to 15 pins per day, I have found the monthly views rising, and it is presently at 18 k.
Google analytics too tells me that the footfalls to my blog has increased during this span with the tangential increase in my pinning frequency.
Pin this for later

All this did not come easy, but with deeper understanding on how this platform works and the changing strategy along with using the native scheduler helped me far more than expected.
All you have got to do is
Out of all three, I would say Keyword optimization at the different places all over your account is the most important and is something that helps you far more than the rest. Though I am not undermining the importance of the other two.
I too focused on creating beautiful pins and writing keyword filled descriptions to lure the audience, but I overlooked one of the most important places that would have pulled the traffic still further. And that is…

With over 2 billion searches happening on Pinterest every month, board titles is another major key to unlocking serious traffic. Strategic board titles can double, triple, or even quadruple your monthly views. And Pinterest too supports this. Board titles should not only be relevant to what you would be pinning but also you would have to make sure your boards and your pins are in sync with what the Pinterest users are searching on this platform.
Many years ago when Pinterest was just gaining traction as a social media platform, creating boards with simple titles like “Recipes,” “Home Decor,” or “Fashion Ideas” got a lot of traffic. In fact, these titles seemed logical as they were describe what you were saving, right?
But things have changed in 2024. Pinterest is now a powerful search engine. So, such inane titles do nothing to help you get found on this platform. Basic board titles are like trying to find a specific book in a library that only has the signs saying “Books.” They’re too vague to be useful. Your board titles need to work harder for you, acting as both signposts for your content and powerful SEO tools.
Look at your current board titles. If they’re single words or generic phrases, you’re missing out on massive traffic potential.
Like any search engine like Google, Pinterest too has an algorithm, and that algorithm crawls through every part of your account to understand your niche, your topics on the pins, and what your boards are all about.
The algorithm does this so that the information in your account can be correctly indexed to be shown to the right Pinterest users depending on their interests and what they type in the search button.
Pinterest’s algorithm is sophisticated, and it still relies heavily on keywords to understand what your content is about. When someone searches for “healthy dinner recipes for busy moms,” Pinterest looks at board titles, pin descriptions, and pin titles to decide what to show in the results. You need to find such long-tail keywords pertinent to your niche for your own Pinterest board names.
But here’s where it gets interesting: Pinterest doesn’t just match exact phrases. It understands related concepts and user intent. This means your board titles need to balance specific keywords with natural language that reflects how real people search.
Creating consistent Pinterest graphics shouldn’t eat up your entire afternoon. That’s why I created the Pinterest Template Membership, where 15 trending, ready-to-customize templates are delivered to your inbox every month for just $9.

This is where many creators get stuck. How do you know which keywords to use? Fortunately, Pinterest gives us powerful (and free) tools for keyword research:
Start typing relevant topics into Pinterest’s search bar. The autocomplete suggestions are pure gold – they show you exactly what people are searching for. Pay special attention to longer phrases, as these often indicate specific user intent.
For example, my business is all about helping you build your business with blogging and social media tips and digital marketing strategies. But using these dual worded keywords would get my content in front of some of my target audience. But I needed my pins to be seen by specific target audience, mostly women and those who want to start a small business from home.
So, on to the search bar I went and typed – BUSINESS IDEAS and this is what Pinterest shows me

I have a few long-tail keywords, and I can use any or all of them as my board titles. Using one of these long-tail keywords would ensure that anyone searching for Business Ideas For Women on Pinterest is more likely to see my pins since I have the same words as my board title and on any of my pin title and pin description.

This is the easiest way to know that my pins get the maximum visibility for any keyword searches that are a combination of any of the words – Business Ideas, Business Ideas Women, Business for Women. You can go ultra-specific and find the keywords that match your target audience. Niching down on your blog topics as well as the board titles would help in faster growth of both your blog and Pinterest.
The whole idea of this example is to show you that creating board titles from the searches on Pinterest is far helpful in my astronomical growth rather than making up my own titles. It is more logical too-have board titles that your audience is searching for.
After you enter a search term, Pinterest shows related topics in bubbles below the search bar. These are additional keywords that real users frequently search for in combination with your main term.
Strategy Alert: Create a spreadsheet of keywords you discover. Look for patterns in the language your target audience uses.
Stop guessing. I’ll research 30 SEO keywords for your niche – the words/phrases people are searching for on Pinterest right now.
You fill out a quick form (niche, content type, blog posts), I do the research, and you get a keyword list in 7 days. Use them in your pins, titles, and descriptions.

Through extensive testing and analysis, I’ve developed a formula that consistently performs well across different niches:
Let’s break this down with real examples:
Instead of using Business Tips, use “Pinterest Marketing Strategies for Creative Entrepreneurs
Instead of using Healthy Recipes, use Quick Healthy Dinner Ideas for Busy Families
Your board titles should read naturally while incorporating strategic keywords. If it sounds awkward when you say it out loud, revise it.
Now you would be asking – why do these keywords matter so much? These keywords are the links between your account and Pinterest, a way where Pinterest algorithm makes the connection between your bio and board titles and the pins you are putting on those boards. This helps in indexing your account and making certain your pins are shown to the right audience. Also, this helps your account appear real and not spammy.
Always make sure that the pins you post on Pinterest are pinned to the relevant boards matching the keywords or the theme of these keywords.
Put a small category on the pin that has the name of the board title. Put the board title name on the title of the pin before the description and if possible, directly in the description too. This is an added linkage between Pinterest, your pin, and your board title.
Your board titles don’t just help with search visibility – they’re also crucial for:
The key is to make every word count. Each board title should clearly communicate:
This is equally important because it gives the Pinterest algorithm an added information about your account and your niche. While writing these descriptions, utilize the keywords that you have found in your research and other relatable ones. Re-use long-tail keyword that you have written in your board title. This helps maximize your chances of your pins being found by your target audience when they type in specific or any or the related keywords in your board description.
Create a list of the keywords that you can use in all your descriptions that are similar to the ones used in the title. All this makes for good Pinterest strategy and will help your pins show up in the search results, paving your way for success.

The Pinterest Playbook covers everything: how to set up your account, SEO keyword research, algorithm secrets, where to add the keywords, what kind of pins to make.
