For as long as I can remember, I’ve read a book a day or in 2 days. And somewhere between the fifth hundred and the thousandth story, I noticed something that kept pulling me out of the page—stories that had potential, but felt just slightly unfinished. And that’s why i started beta reading books for authors

There were times the pacing faltered. Maybe the emotional arc didn’t land. Or maybe a subplot disappeared halfway through. The words stopped projecting visual imagery, and the book became uninteresting.

I didn’t know it then, but what I was feeling was the absence of developmental feedback—the kind of support that strengthens a manuscript before it reaches a final editor or the hands of readers.

And that’s where this journey began.

Not Just Reading—But Listening to the Story Underneath

What I realized was this: beta reading wasn’t just about pointing out what didn’t work.

It was about listening—to what the story wanted to be. To what the author was trying to say. It was about offering feedback that respected the writer’s voice while gently highlighting where the reader might stumble.

And here’s something many authors miss—especially in early drafts: the words are there, but the visuals aren’t. A scene unfolds, but the reader can’t see it. The imagery is vague, the setting floats, the gestures feel generic.

Remember the adage: show and not tell.

As a beta reader and editor, I gently flag these moments. Not to critique, but to help you ground your story. When a reader can visualize a moment clearly, they connect. And that connection? That’s what carries them from page one to the end and makes the book an immersive read.

That’s the heart of my work now. Whether I’m doing a first-round beta read or a full developmental edit, my focus is always the same:

Why This Matters—Especially If You’re an Author Without a Big Team

Most authors I work with don’t have a whole publishing house behind them. Some are self-publishing. Some are going the traditional route but still want a strong manuscript before querying. Others are working on their fourth book and know the power of a fresh set of eyes.

But no matter where they are, they all want the same thing:

Editing Grew Naturally From This Foundation

After beta reading for a couple of years, many authors came back and said, “Do you do editing too?”

And I realized I already was. I was offering developmental-level feedback, story structure insights, and sometimes even in-line comments on flow and style.

So I leaned in. I began offering line editing, developmental editing, and feedback packages that gave authors what they needed most: clarity, strategy, and support.

No jargon. No ego. Just editing that understands your book and what you’re trying to build. And I always give suggestions at different points for you to see the realm of opportunities bringing about different subplots. All you need to do is use them as prompts and build up on your story.

I may not be the right fit for every author—and that’s okay.
